SFHK Partners with Police Anti-Deception Coordination Centre (ADCC) to Combat Fraud Encourages Public to Download Official Mobile App "SFHK APP" to Avoid Scam

2025.3.14
  • (Hong Kong, March 14, 2025) Recently, criminals had been using illegal radio devices to impersonate “#SFExpress” and sent fake waybill number SMS messages, attempting to deceive recipients into clicking fraudulent links and entering credit card information for monetary theft. Following an in-depth investigation by the police, the perpetrators have been successfully apprehended. In response to the increasing prevalence of scams, S.F. Express (Hong Kong) Limited (“SFHK”) has once again joined forces with the Hong Kong Police Anti-Deception Coordination Centre (ADCC) to launch a fraud prevention campaign. SFHK appeals to the public to download its official mobile app, "SFHK APP," to receive the latest shipment updates through trusted channels and avoid falling victim to scams.

SMS Scams Account for 70% of Fraud Cases, SFHK: Further Reducing SMS Notifications to Counter Scams

According to data, SMS scams have become one of the most common methods of consumer fraud. In recent years, scammers frequently impersonate SF or other logistics companies, using reasons such as incomplete delivery addresses or additional delivery fees to lure recipients into entering personal information or making unauthorized transactions on fraudulent websites. Over the past three years, SFHK has received a total of 4,036 reports of fraud or suspected fraud cases, with 72.7% involving SMS scams. A new type of scam has even emerged earlier this year—for January and February alone, there were 417 fraud-related inquiries and reports, representing nearly double the monthly average of fraud cases over the past three years.

Take Effect from April: Pick-Up Notifications to Be Sent Exclusively via "SFHK APP"

To better protect customers from SMS scams and phishing websites, SFHK will implement changes starting April 14, switching all parcel self-pickup notifications from SMS to push notifications through its official "SFHK APP." This move aims to reduce the risk of customers falling victim to fraudulent messages. Through the "SFHK APP," customers can conveniently check the latest status of their shipments, including waybill numbers, delivery routes, sender and recipient details, and payment information.

Ms. Charlize Liu, Head of Public Affairs and Communications at SFHK stated: “SFHK takes scam messages impersonating our company very seriously. In addition to actively cooperating with law enforcement to combat various types of fraud, we also regularly conduct public education campaigns to promote anti-fraud awareness to our customers. By switching parcel self pick-up reminders exclusively to our mobile app, we aim to minimize opportunities for criminals to impersonate SFHK and scam our customers. At the same time, the 'SFHK APP' allows customers to conveniently track package statuses, aligning with the public’s growing adoption of smartphones.”

She appeals to customers to download and register the mobile app as soon as possible and to enable notifications in order to receive shipment arrival alerts promptly, as well as to access other value-added services.

Comprehensive Promotion of Anti-Fraud Information, Coverage Includes SFHK Fleet, Stores, and All Packaging Materials.

In addition to optimizing message delivery measures, SFHK has actively assisted the Police Force in promoting anti-fraud information in recent years. This includes adding fraud prevention alerts and links to download the "Scameter+" app on the SFHK app and website, enhancing the public's ability to recognize online traps. Furthermore, anti-fraud information videos produced by the police are being broadcasted on SF Media televisions in nearly 100 SF Stores, and over 300 SFHK operational vehicles across Hong Kong are displaying anti-fraud advertisements. Additionally, the "Anti-deception Enquiry Hotline" is featured on all SFHK packaging boxes, bags, and document seals. SFHK is also actively participating in anti-fraud initiatives launched by government departments, including the "Anti-Scam Consumer Protection Charter" introduced by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Hong Kong Association of Banks, aimed at increasing public awareness about protecting credit cards and personal information.

Be Cautious of False Information, Always Verify Through Official Platforms

SFHK reiterates that the company will never ask customers to make payments through hyperlinks and reminds the public to remain vigilant during online transactions. If you have disclosed personal information to someone suspiciously posing as a company employee, please report it to the police immediately or contact the Hong Kong Police Force's Anti-Deception Coordination Centre at 18222 for assistance. Customers can also provide relevant information to SFHK through the aforementioned channels, and the company will relay it to the police for handling.
